Welcome to The Viking Museum on Djurgården in Stockholm
Discover the Viking Age in new ways. On beautiful Djurgården, in the heart of Stockholm, you will find The Viking Museum – an experiential museum where history, myth and archaeology come together in a vivid and interactive environment.
A Viking museum for all ages
Who were the Vikings, really? Were they only plundering warriors, as popular culture so often portrays them?
At The Viking Museum, you will gain a nuanced and historically grounded understanding of the Viking Age. Here, you will encounter stories of the women, children and men who lived their lives on farms in Scandinavia – as well as the bold seafarers who travelled across Europe for trade and raids.
Our interactive exhibition features archaeological artefacts, historically reconstructed environments and in-depth stations that offer an engaging museum experience for both children and adults. Our guides, dressed in Viking-era clothing, are on site to answer questions and bring history to life through personal storytelling.
Experience the ride Ragnfrid’s Saga
One of the museum’s most appreciated experiences is the dramatized ride Ragnfrid’s Saga. Travel through 10th-century Europe and follow Harald on his journey into the wider world, where trade and raids await. It is a story of family, courage, sorrow and love – inspired by historical events.
Discover Viking Age daily life, journeys and mythology
Step directly into the world of the Vikings. Through films, immersive soundscapes, authentic objects and scenographically reconstructed environments, one of Scandinavia’s most fascinating eras is brought back to life.
You will explore the Viking Age Scandinavians’:
- – Journeys and trade along Europe’s rivers and coastlines
- – Social structure and family life
- – Craftsmanship and tradition
- – Beliefs, mythology and worldview
The Viking Museum is a must-visit destination on Djurgården for international tourists, families with children, school groups and Stockholm residents who want to experience the Viking Age in a modern and engaging way.
Plan your visit and take part in an experience where historical authenticity meets contemporary storytelling – in the heart of Stockholm.
